    Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Balloons to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Balloons we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

    Tell me more »

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Balloons to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Balloons will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

    What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Balloons receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

Rob is the Director of Finance and Resources, and Company Secretary at the University of Exeter Student’s Guild. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and has worked in a range of Finance and audit roles over the last 20 years in Charities, private practice and social enterprises. He graduated from the University of Kent at Canterbury with a BA Honours degree in History and Classical Civilisation and has as MBA from Edinburgh Business School. Rob joined Balloons in 2016 and sits on the Finance Committee.

I have been a Trustee and Treasurer of Balloons since 2015. I have been a Chartered Accountant for over 15 years, working a varied portfolio of small businesses and individuals. For Balloons 1 oversee the Charity’s finances, ensuring the charity has strong financial controls and operates as efficiently as possible. I have lived in Devon for 14 years, having previously lived and worked in London, Japan and Australia. I am a Graduate of Economics and Politics and briefly worked as a government economist before starting my training as an accountant.

I was born in Essex and relocated to Devon 24 years ago. My association with Balloons started in 2005 after I lost my wife to cancer, she was just 39. Being left with my 2 girls then aged 8 and 10 was a very daunting prospect, my wife (Angie) and I had received tremendous support from the Cancer support team at Force and afterwards I was put in-touch with Balloons. I know from experience that support through tough times is vital so working with the Trustee’s is my way of saying a huge thanks to all at Balloons who helped me and my girls “dust ourselves off and get back on the horse” as my late wife would have said!

Now retired, my working career was split between teaching in secondary schools and running my own educational publishing company. I have also been heavily involved in parent-teacher associations, locally and nationally, and serving as a school governor in primary and comprehensive schools. I have been a Trustee of Balloons since 2008 and I serve on the Personnel subcommittee.

I am a Community Hospice Nurse. I was born and brought up in Devon and I am married with four children and eight grandchildren. In 2006 along with another nursing colleague, I helped to set up the charity and have been a Trustee since then. I have a particular interest in pre-bereavement work.

I joined the Trustee Board of Balloons in the early days of the charity. As a Consultant Paediatrician, now retired, my main interests have been in child development and safeguarding.

I joined Balloons as Chair of the Board of Trustees in June 2019.  I am an experienced international business leader and consultant having worked for a variety of global firms specialising in defining strategy, organisational alignment and building international capability.  I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and have a postgraduate diploma in HR management.

I have worked with the charity Pilotlight since 2009. This charity matches business leaders with small UK charities to work on their strategy plans.  It was with Pilotlight that I first met with the staff and Trustees of Balloons.

I live in West Dorset with my wife and have 3 grown up children.
