Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – presentation time!
In June of last year we were honoured to be bestowed with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service but due to Covid-19 restrictions we were not able to receive the award until this Thursday (7th October!). However, it was very much worth the wait and a wonderful morning was shared with our volunteers, Trustees and staff – some of whom had never met face-to face!
The award was presented to Balloons by Lady Arran, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Devon who gave a delightful address, thanking all the volunteers, staff and Trustees for their unfailing work. She also reminded everyone of how very special the Queen’s Award is, describing it as the equivalent to an MBE and the highest award that can be bestowed to local voluntary groups in the UK. Receiving the award on behalf of Balloons was Lynette Oram (one of our tireless volunteer grief support workers) who describing receiving the Award as “the wind beneath our wings”.
The Balloon’s staff team would like to take this moment to thank all who came along to share this special day with us.
